Making his return to the Australian squad since the ball-tampering scandal, Steve Smith ensured to make a significant impact by taking a stunner. Apart from Smith, his Australian counterpart David Warner, who was also making his first appearance since ban, hit a quickfire 39. Australia chased down the target of 216 runs to beat New Zealand by one wicket in a practice match at Allan Border Field in Brisbane as they warm up for their World Cup defence. In the New Zealand XI's innings, Steve Smith made a brilliant dive to complete a stunning one-handed catch and dismiss Tom Latham by in the 33rd over. The former Australian captain had said that competing in the IPL has immensely helped his preparation for the upcoming 50-over World Cup. “Personally for me, playing IPL is to spend some time in the middle to take on quality opposition and best players,” Smith said ahead of Rajasthan's match with Royal Challengers Bangalore. “I think T20 cricket almost prepares you well for 50 overs cricket. It is an extended version of T20 cricket, the way it has been played in the last two years,” he added.
