WATCH: Skipper in Hijab leads UAE women to victory on international debut
UAE women’s team was put to bowl first as they lost the toss, which was eventually the only thing they lost
The citizens of United Arab Emirates (UAE) felt most proud on July 7 after their women’s cricket team registered the first-ever victory in international cricket. The UAE eves have participated in the ICC Women’s World T20 qualifier in Netherlands. On Saturday, the team debuted in the international circuit and came up with flying colours.
Under the leadership of Humaira Tasneem, UAE women’s team was put to bowl first as they lost the toss. However, by the end of the day, the toss was the only thing they lost.
Netherland Women’s team scored a competitive total of 137 runs after losing 3 wickets. Credit goes to opener Sterre Kalis’ 68-ball 88 and Denise Hannema’s contribution of 23 runs which led them to post a decent score on the board.

In return, the debutants had a poor start as they lost opener Esha Rohit Oza in the second over. Came in to bat at number 3, Nisha Ali turned her first international match into a memorable and remained the highest scorer of the team.
She scored 69 off 59 deliveries and smashed 9 boundaries. Though she lost her wicket in the 18th over, her dismissal didn’t bother them much. Chamani Seneviratna (14*) and Heena Hotchandani (2*) finished the game and scripted history for UAE.
