Vijay Hazare Trophy: Manoj Tiwary criticises pitches, demands good playing conditions

Tiwary asked for ‘equal level field and pitches for all cricketers playing domestic matches’

Indian cricketer Manoj Tiwary led the Bengal team to a 6-wicket victory against Jammu and Kashmir in the ongoing Vijay Hazare trophy on Thursday. Despite registering a comfortable victory, the 32-year-old batsman was not at all happy and the reason was poor playing conditions.

The match was affected by heavy rains after which it was reduced to 24 overs a side. Jammu & Kashmir were bowled out for 96 in 23.4 overs. In reply, Bengal lost just four wickets before reaching the target in a little over 20 overs.

After the completion of the match, Tiwary took to his official social media account and expressed his displeasure on the playing conditions. At the same time, he demanded ‘equal level field and pitches for all cricketers playing domestic matches’.

The matches scheduled in Chennai are continuously facing the wrath of heavy rains. On the opening day of the tournament, two matches (Assam vs Gujarat and Haryana vs Jharkhand) scheduled at different grounds across the state were abandoned without a being bowled.

Bengal played their first game at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering Ground, Chennai and faced the same situation. But they were lucky enough that they could reach to get the result.

They are scheduled to play their next game on September 23 against Tripura at the MS Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
