Eye Of Man Admitted With Bullet Injury Goes Missing After Death, Patna Hospital Blames Rats

The injured man was operated upon and the bullet was removed, but he died at 8:55 pm on Friday. His family was with him till 1 am but when they returned, they found his left eye was missing.

The eye of a man, who was hospitalised with a bullet injury, went missing after his death at Patna's second-largest hospital, following which the family has claimed that it was taken out by the hospital for "business". The family members also staged a protest, but the hospital put the blame on rats, NDTV reported.

Fantus Kumar, was admitted to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) on Thursday after being shot in his abdomen. His brother-in-law said it was a conspiracy by the hospital. "How can they be so negligent? Either someone from the hospital conspired with the people who shot him or the hospital is involved in some business of taking people's eyes out," he was quoted as saying by NDTV.

'Someone Took The Eye In ICU'

"If we can't trust such a big facility, who can we trust? Someone took his eye out in the ICU and the hospital is saying it doesn't know what has happened. This is very unfortunate," he added.

An official said it was clear that the body was tampered with. "The man's family has alleged that his eye has been taken out. It is clear the body has been tampered with. The doctors have said rats could have bitten off the eye, and we are investigating," he added.

The injured man was operated upon and the bullet was removed at the hospital, but he died at 8:55 pm on Friday. His family was with him till 1 am but when they returned after a few hours, they found his left eye was missing. An FIR has been filed, the official added.

"The possibility of rats biting off the eye cannot be ignored. We will have to wait for a post-mortem. This is not acceptable, and anyone found guilty of negligence will be punished," he further said.
