It was during the second innings of the match that took place at Nottingham when Eoin Morgan smashed Ishant Sharma's ball towards the leg side. Pacer Praveen Kumar followed the ball and stopped it and meanwhile, England players and even some Indians believed that the ball had touched the rope.
Praveen then picked up the ball and returned it to Dhoni, who was keeping wickets, then dislodging the bails as the batters were spotted standing outside the crease.
Commentator Michael Holding said on-air during the incident, "The ball isn't dead, I am not too sure what's happening here. What took place? Now, this is very interesting. Both batsmen were out of the ground, the ball came back, they took the bails off...if it's not four, this could be interesting."
Once the umpires assessed if it was a boundary or not, Bell was given run-out but the Indian players after stepping down on the ground post Tea withdrew their appeal and Bell returned to the field, resuming his innings with Morgan. India however lost the Test by 319 runs.
