This is a first for Indian cricket—a combined total of 1014 runs—marking a new benchmark in their Test journey. But which teams have posted the highest combined scores in a single Test match in world cricket?

India Enters Elite Club with 1000+ Runs 

Let’s take a look at the top four teams with the most runs in a Test.

1. England – 1121 Runs (1930)

England holds the all-time record for the highest aggregate in a Test match. In a 1930 Test at Kingston, England piled up 849 runs in the first innings and followed it up with a declaration at 272/9 in the second innings, taking their total to a mammoth 1121 runs.

2. Pakistan – 1078 Runs (2006)

Next on the list is Pakistan, who amassed 1078 runs in the second Test of the 2006 series against India in Faisalabad. They posted 588 in the first innings and added another 490 in the second, though the match eventually ended in a draw.

3. Australia – 1028 Runs (1934)

Australia takes the third spot with 1028 runs, a record set in the 1934 Ashes Test at The Oval. They scored 701 runs in the first innings and followed it with 327 runs in the second, putting on a dominant batting display against England.

4. India – 1014 Runs (2025)

India now finds itself in elite company. In the Birmingham Test at Edgbaston, the team scored 587 runs in the first innings and declared at 427/6 in the second, bringing their total to 1014 runs. This marks the first time in Indian Test history that the team has crossed the 1000-run mark in a single match.
