Test results in Australia depend upon Indian pacers' fitness: AB de Villiers

The 34-year-old surprised everyone in May 2018 when he announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. The announcement came after he had a good Test series against Australia

South African legend AB de Villiers believes that despite facing the consistent defeat overseas, the Indian team has got all the potential to perform great on away tours. The Indian team failed to win the away series even after performing well during its tour of South Africa and England. However, veteran De Villiers believes that Indian batsmen will do well against Australia in the four-match series starting in December.

“They came to South Africa and probably played the better cricket in the series. They lost to England but the first Test was on a knife’s edge which would have changed the whole complexion of the series. They have got to take the opportunity, especially going to Australia. If you slip first Test match there, it becomes a snowball. Actually anywhere in the world, the minute you are playing away from home, the way you start is very important. They slipped in South Africa and England and it snowballed,” said De Villiers.

The 34-year-old surprised everyone in May 2018 when he announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. The announcement came after he had a good Test series against Australia. The right-handed batsman scored 427 runs at an average of 71.16.

“I am pretty happy with my decision but I am not finished yet. You will see me playing around the world in the next few years. I still love the game but playing 12 months in a year got a little too much for me,” said De Villiers.
