Namibia Captain Gerhard Erasmus broke the unwanted record of taking the most number of balls to get off the mark.

Australia beat Namibia by 9 wickets in their ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 faceoff at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. The win has given Australia a guranteed berth in the Super Eight stage of the tournament. It was a clinical performance from the Men in Yellow who first bowled out Nambia out for 72, the Aussies chased down the total inside the powerplay itself.

During the course of the Namibia innings, one of their batters broke an unwanted record of taking the most number of balls to score the first run in a T20I match. The record was broken by Namibia captain Gerhard Erasmus who scored his 1st run off the 17th ball that he faced. With this he went past Kenya's Tanmay Mishra who had taken 16 balls to score his first run.

Namibia, Oman Eliminated From Race To T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s

Notably, Australia and Namibia are both part of Group B. While Australia have sealed a place in the Super Eights, Namibia and Oman have been eliminated from the race to the Super 8s. Namibia have won 1 and lost 1 of their matches but are still out of contention for a place in th next round, so is the case with Oman who have lost all their three matches in the tournament.

Australia with 3 out of 3 wins and a net run rate of +3.580 have sealed a place in the Super 8s. However, the same was not the case with South Africa who had won three out of three matches but still had to depend on the result of the other matches for them to secure a place in the next round.
