'I'll Bring Him Back On His Feet': Sunil Gavaskar Extends Lifeline To Vinod Kambli

Worries about Vinod Kambli's health have intensified after a recent video featuring him and Sachin Tendulkar at a memorial event for their legendary coach, Ramakant Achrekar, went viral.

Sunil Gavaskar, a legendary figure in international cricket, has promised that the 1983 World Cup-winning team will come together to extend their support to Vinod Kambli, who has been facing serious health challenges in recent times.

In the footage, Kambli is seen holding Tendulkar's hand tightly and appearing reluctant to let go. Concerns about his well-being first surfaced in August when another video showed him struggling to walk.

"The 1983 team is very conscious of the younger players. For me, they are like grandsons. If you see their age, some are like sons. We are all very concerned, particularly when fortunes desert them. I don't like the word help. What the 83 team wants to do is take care of him. We want to take care of Vinod Kambli and help him get back on his feet. How we will do, we'll see in future. We want to take care of cricketers who are struggling when fortunes don't smile on them," Gavaskar told Sports Today.

The cricketer-turned-commentator is currently in Australia. He is part of the broadcasting team covering IND vs AUS 2nd Test in Adelaide.

Former India pacer Balwinder Singh Sandhu recently revealed that Kapil Dev, captain of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team, has expressed a willingness to support Vinod Kambli on the condition that he takes the initiative to seek rehabilitation.

Kambli's struggles with alcohol addiction have strained his relationships with several of his cricketing colleagues over the years.

"Kapil Dev has told me clearly that if he wants to go to rehab, then we are willing to help him financially," Sandhu said.

"However, he has to check into rehab himself first. Only if he does that, we are ready to foot the bill, irrespective of how long the treatment lasts," he added.
