West Indies earned a consoltaory win in the third and final ODI of the bilateral series at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday (October 26). The hosts had already won the two matches that preceded the third game but the tourists ended the series with a confidence-boosting victory, beating Sri Lanka at home by 8 wickets in yet another rain-affected fixture, which was effectively a 23-overs shootout.
While the star for the Men from the Caribbean island was Evin Lewis whose 61-ball 102 set up the win for West Indies, even before the first ball was bowled it was wicketkeeper-batter Jewel Andrew who broke a record and grabbed headlines.
The highly-rated West Indian teenager was included in the side with the Windies making three changes to their team- Lewis coming in for Alick Athnaze, Matthew Forde replacing Hayden Walsh and Romario Shepherd making way for Andrew, making the stumper the first 17-year-old to play for West Indies men's cricket team since Gary Sobers and the youngest to play ODIs for the team.
