Sanju Samson Opens Up On Personal Struggles After Match-Winning Ton In 3rd T20I Vs Bangladesh, Says 'I Have Failed A Lot'

Sanju Samson smashed the second-fastest hundred by an Indian in a T20I in Hyderabad on Saturday and opened up on his personal struggle and failures.

Sanju Samson has delivered for Team India. There have not been many instances when even his die hard fans have had the opportunity to use that expression. However, he did come to the party in India's third and final T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad on Saturday (October 12). The right-handed batter smashed his maiden T20I century as India posted 297/6, their highest-ever total in T20I cricket.

Such was Samson's class that his 111 off 47 balls included eight sixes and 11 fours even when he rarely tried to muscle the ball. It was an innings that became the second-fastest T20I hundred by an Indian batter. It was high time that the Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain delivered on the big stage with the wicketkeeper-batter getting a chance as an opener only with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill rested.

I Wanted To Perform But Still Kept It Basic: Sanju Samson

"I can do much better," Samson said after the match as India thrashed Bangladesh by 133 runs to complete a 3-0 series clean sweep.

"(I am) very happy that they (teammates) are happy I did well. It can get frustrating knowing what you can do out there, and I have also felt I can do much better," the 29-year-old Kerala batter who made his India debut in 2015 but has never managed to cement his place in the side said at the post-match presentation.

"But, with playing so many games I know how do deal with pressure and my failures because I have failed a lot. Just focus was on process and knowing you will do well," he added.

"Playing for your country, that pressure was there, but I wanted to perform and wanted to show. But I still kept it basic and wanted to take it by one ball (at a time)."
