New Delhi: Sanju Samson played a superb innings  to help BPCL win the35th PSPB Inter Unit Cricket Tournament at the Palam sports complex.  


After winning the toss, team IOCL chose to field and were greeted by a confident aggressive performance by the BPCL players with 22-year old Sanju Samson dominating proceedings. Confident and aggressive Sanju hit 6 sixes and 11 fours in his total of 95 off 61 balls. Towards the end of the innings Rahul Tripathi (40 off 18) and Shreyas Iyer (32 off 22) helped BPCL score 57 runs in their last 5 overs, which, in the final analysis, made all the difference. They finished with a total score of 191 for the loss of 3 wickets in their 20 overs.


IOCL began strongly and were 68 for 2 in 6 overs and at that point with the Uncle and  Nephew Duo of Wasim Jaffer and Arman Jaffer on the field and looking comfortable, it seemed that IOCL may overtake the BPCL total. A good tight performance by the BPCL bowlers then helped them get wickets consistently and this gradually enabled BPCL edge ahead and finally emerge winners with IOCL finishing at a score of 181 for the loss of 7 wickets. Young Armaan (age 18) was the top scorer with 53 (31 balls)


In the 3rd and 4th position playoffs, team ONGC beat HPCL comfortably and overtook their total of 38 in 4 overs.


In the individual acknowledgements, Adeeb Usmani of HPCL was declared the  Bowler of the Tournament, Sanju Samson of BPCL the Best Batsman and Arman Jaffer the Player of the Tournament.


Mr VC Bhandari, Director (HR), Engineers India Ltd was the Chief Guest at the Prize Distribution and gave away the prizes in the presence of Mr MM Saha and Mr A Bhowmik.
