IND vs BAN 1st Test: Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first as India see Rishabh Pant, Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli making a return to Test cricket.
The India vs Bangladesh Test series is underway at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) in Chennai. India have begun their new era under the head coach Gautam Gambhir and will look to mark the first Test of his tenure on a winning note. Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first in the 1st IND vs BAN Test. Making a return to the Indian Test side is Rishabh Pant, who is playing his first Test after a gap of 632 days.
Alonngside Pant, Virat Kohli too makes a return to the Test side as he missed the India vs England Test series due to personal reasons. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah too makes a return to the Test scene.

After losing the toss, Indian team captain Rohit Sharma expressed that he would have chosen to bowl first as well noting that the Chennai conditions are going to be challenging.
"I would have done that as well (bowl first). Little soft, the pitch. It's going to be challenging conditions. We have prepared well, so we should back our potential and play the way we know. Looking at the 10 Test matches, every match is important. But we want to focus on what lies in front of us. We came here a week back, we had a good prep leading up to this one. We feel confident. Three seamers and two spinners - Bumrah, Akash Deep, Siraj, Ashwin and Jadeja," said the Indian captain.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, after winning the toss and choosing to bowl first, made it clear that he wants to make use of the moisture in the Chennai pitch.
“I'll like to bowl first. There's moisture on the wicket and we want to make use of it. Pitch looks hard and there's moisture. The first session will be very good for the seamers. The way we played that series (against Pakistan), we are confident. This is a new series, we'll have to follow our processes. It's a good mixture of experience and youth. We go with three seamers and two spin all rounders,” Shanto said.
