Salil Ankola To Be Replaced As Member Of Selection Committee: Report

Since both Ajit Agarkar and Salil Ankola hail from the West Zone, the BCCI is likely to arrive at this decision.

In a significant development within Indian cricket, changes are on the horizon for the selection committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). There's a growing buzz in the Indian cricketing community indicating that Salil Ankola, the former fast-bowling legend and the head of selectors for the western region, is on the verge of stepping down from his current position.

According per a report carried by Indian Express, the BCCI has taken a decisive step to avoid having two selectors from the same geographical zone, a move that directly impacts Salil Ankola. This former India and Mumbai cricket captain, who has faithfully served as a senior selector, now faces an uncertain future due to this geographical zoning policy.

Currently, the selection committe is being headed by Ajit Agarkar who was appointed as the chairman. But Agarkar and Ankola both hail from West Zone and thus the Indian Cricket Board have apparently made up their mind thay they will not be renewing Ankola's tenure once it gets over.

It is pertinent to note that those who have assumed positions under the current selection committee were initially awarded one-year contracts with the BCCI and will be required to reapply in December. Apart from Ankola and Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath are part of the committee. It is being reported that to take the procedure into the further stages, the BCCI will need approval from the board which it will seek at the upcoming annual general body meeting in Goa. The Board is also mulling to introduce an updated compensation package for those selected to be members of the selection committee.
