SA20: Faf Du Plessis' Explosive 20-Ball 50 Helps Joburg Super Kings To Victory in 5.4 Overs

Joburg Super Kings secured a 10-wicket victory against MI Cape Town in a dominating manner at the SA20 league, with Faf du Plessis playing a key role in the team's success.

Joburg Super Kings (JSK) captain Faf du Plessis showcased a spectacular return to form by hammering a 20-ball half-century during his team's encounter against MI Cape Town (MICT) at Newlands securing a commanding 10-wicket victory in the SA20 league on January 29 (Monday). The experienced Proteas batsman, along with England's Leus du Plooy, dismantled the MI Cape Town bowling attack, successfully chasing down the rain-truncated target of 98 runs in just 5.4 overs.

Before the game against MICT, Faf du Plessis had a series of forgettable outings in the ongoing SA20 league, with scores of 17, 9, 10, 7, and 6. However, in the match against Pretoria Capitals just before that, he made an unbeaten 25 off 12 balls. JSK had struggled to secure victories, managing only one win in the previous seven matches, including two no-results. Du Plessis' return to form with the bat has played a crucial role in keeping his team alive in the race for the knockout stages.

Here’s A Clip Du Plessis And Du Plooy Onslaught On MI Cape Town:

In a match curtailed by weather conditions, the Super Kings were set a revised target of 98 runs in 8 overs. MICT managed to score 80 runs from their 8 overs, with Kieron Pollard leading the way with a quickfire 33 runs off 10 balls. The Super Kings commenced their chase emphatically, with du Plooy hitting back-to-back sixes off the first two balls from Nuwan Thushara. Du Plessis capitalised on the momentum, striking a six and a four off Kagiso Rabada in the next over and taking him for a total of 20 runs in the fourth over. By the 6th over, the visitors needed only nine runs to win, and they successfully crossed the finish line, aided by a wide delivery from Pollard outside off.

In addition to the skipper's brilliant performance, opener Leus du Plooy remained unbeaten at 41 as JSK chased down the target in just 5.4 overs. Faf du Plessis was rightfully adjudged the Player of the Match for his outstanding contribution to the team's comprehensive victory. The Super Kings not only secured a comprehensive win but also earned a bonus point, accumulating a total of 13 points from 8 matches. With this victory, they now occupy the fourth spot in the team standings.
