Ahead of the three-match T20 series against Kiwis, stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma has the opportunity to become the second most successful Indian skipper in T20 cricket if the visitors win series by 2-0 or more than that. Rohit-led India has won 11 out of 12 T20Is till now with only getting beaten once in the Nidahas Trophy in 2018 against Sri Lanka.
India former skipper MS Dhoni is at the top of the list with 41 wins in 72 matches.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli has lead the Indian team in 20 T20Is in which they managed to emerge victorious in 12 games, faced defeat in seven while one match against Aussies in 2018 was stopped by rain.
After win in the 5th ODI, the 31-year-old said Indian squad wanted to test themselves and bring the team together after they faced the humiliating loss in Hamilton. Sharma also praised his side for performing brilliantly in the final ODI and clinch the series 4-1.
“Coming here in New Zealand and beating them 4-1 is a massive achievement for us. The teams have come here in the past and have struggled beating them on their home ground. They play good cricket, particularly at home. Winning the series is a great take away for us as the last time we came here we were thrashed four-nil,” Sharma said at the post-match press conference after their win over New Zealand in the fifth ODI match in Wellington.
