Rashid Khan Punished For Breaching ICC Code Of Conduct In Afghanistan vs Bangladesh T20 World Cup Clash

An official release by the world cricket governing body has confirmed that Rashid Khan was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

Rashid Khan, Afghanistan captain, has been punished by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. Rashid was found guilty during Afghanistan's win over Bangladesh in the final Super Eights encounter that sealed them an unprecedented place in the semifinal of any World Cup. 

An official release by the world cricket governing body has confirmed that Rashid was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. Notably, Rashid had thrown his bat to express his frustration at his batting partner Karim Janat who refused a second run during the last over of Afghanistan's batting innings.

The Afghanistan skipper was given an official reprimand with one demerit point being added to Rashid’s disciplinary record. Rashid admitted to the Rashid admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Match Referees. That implied that there was no need for a formal hearing. On-field umpires during the Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match Nitin Menon and Langton Rusere along with the third umpire Adrian Holdstock and fourth umpire Ahsan Raza  of that fixture had levelled the charge.

Meanwhile's Afghanistan's win over Bangladesh in their last Super Eights match of T20 World Cup 2024 helped them set up a place in the semifinal where they will meet an undefeated South Africa. However, their faceoff will be in Trinidad, a venue where Afghanistan won't mind playing, given the quality they posses in their spin department and the pitch likely to assiste spinners.
