Rangana Herath sustains hand injury, likely to miss 3rd Test against West Indies

The day-night Test at Barbados is going to be the last chance for Sri Lanka to end the series on a decent note

While the ball tampering row has already troubled Sri Lanka a lot, the team have received yet another blow ahead of the final Test against West Indies.

Veteran spinner Rangana Herath has sustained an injury in his right hand which has put a big question mark on his chances to feature in the last Test starting from June 23 at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) confirmed the same in a release which was also shared on their official Twitter handle. The released stated that Herath split the webbing between the fourth and fifth fingers of his right hand during a practice session ahead of the third Test.

Sri Lanka is currently reeling behind West Indies in the 3-match rubber by 0-1. The day-night Test at Barbados is going to be the last chance for the visitors to end the series on a decent note. However, unavailability of experienced players in the upcoming face-off might affect the performance of the unit.

Skipper Dinesh Chandimal has already been slapped with one-match suspension after the entire drama happened on the second and third day of the St Lucia Test. In his absence, Herath was one of the contenders to lead the pack.

Since the 40-year-old left arm spinner has also sustained injury and doubtful to play the next game, vice-captain Suranga Lakmal may have to fit in Chandimal’s shoes.

Just a day before the final face-off, the Lankan skipper is scheduled to attend the hearing in the presence of Michael Beloff QC who has been appointed by ICC as the judicial commissioner.
