Rahul Dravid Confirms T20 World Cup 2024 To Be His Last Assignment As Team India Head Coach

Rahul Dravid has confirmed that the T20 World Cup will be his final assignment and that he will not reapply for the role again.

Team India head coach Rahul Dravid has announced that the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 will be his final assignment as the head coach of the Indian senior men's cricket team. The former India captain's contract expires at the end of the ICC event, and Dravid has confirmed that he will not reapply for the position, for which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had rolled out an advertisement last month.

Rahul Dravid confirmed that the ongoing T20 World Cup will be his last assignment as the head coach of the Indian team, citing scheduling challenges and personal reasons for not reapplying. Speaking ahead of India’s first game against Ireland in New York, he emphasised that the tournament holds the same significance for him as previous ones. Dravid expressed his love for the job, his enjoyment in coaching India, and his appreciation for working with the current team.

"Every tournament is important. Every game that I've coached for India has been very important for me. So for me this is no different just because it is going to be the last one that I'm in charge of. I love doing the job. I've really enjoyed coaching India and I think it's a truly special job to do. I enjoyed working with this team and it's a great bunch of boys to work with but yeah but just considering, unfortunately just the kind of schedules and where I find myself in the stage in my life, I don't think I'll be able to reapply." Dravid said as quoted by PTI ahead of the India vs Ireland T20 World Cup 2024 match in New York.

Team India's Performance Under Rahul Dravid's Tenure

Rahul Dravid took over as head coach of the Indian team from Ravi Shastri in November 2021, following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup in Dubai. Since then, he has overseen the 2022 T20 World Cup, the 2023 World Test Championship final, and the 2023 ODI World Cup. Although the ODI World Cup 2023 was expected to be his final event as India coach, Dravid agreed to continue until the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024.

Under Dravid's leadership, India won 14 out of 17 bilateral T20I series, including series wins in England and New Zealand. Additionally, India won 10 of 14 ODI series and 6 of 8 Test series during his tenure.
