A moment of silence was observed in honour of former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi before the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 match between Australia and the Netherlands at Delhi's Arun Jaitley Stadium on October 25 (Wednesday). Bishan Singh Bedi passed away on October 23 (Monday), at the age of 77 after a prolonged illness. The legendary spinner represented India in 67 Tests between 1967 and 1979, claiming 266 wickets. He also participated in 10 One-Day Internationals, where he took seven wickets.
Bedi, who played for Delhi in domestic cricket, holds the remarkable distinction of being the highest wicket-taker among Indian players in First-Class cricket, amassing a remarkable 1,560 wickets in 370 matches. In the 1975 World Cup, Bedi produced a remarkable performance with figures of 12-8-6-1 against East Africa, delivering the most economical spell in 60-over ODI matches.
Talking about the AUS vs NED, World Cup 2023 fixture, Australia's captain, Pat Cummins, won the toss and chose to bat against the Netherlands in the World Cup 2023 match in Delhi. Australia would be eager to extend their winning streak and maintain their position in the top four with a victory. Meanwhile, Netherlands, who have shown a competitive brand of cricket, would be looking to cause another upset, as they did against South Africa.
Green in, Stoinis out for Australia
During the toss, Pat Cummins stated, "We will have a bat. Looks like a lovely wicket. The sun is out. Happy with the way we have played the last couple of games. The bridge is still too far for Head. Stoinis has a niggly calf. Cam Green comes in."
The Netherlands' skipper, Scott Edwards, mentioned at the toss, "We were looking to bowl first. Team is in a good place. We have played good cricket but not for long enough. We would want to rectify that. The boys would want to do well. No changes."
After opting to bat, Australia were off to a positive start barring the wicket of Mitchell Marsh and made 66 runs for just one wicket after the 10-over mark.
