In order to show solidarity with the families of martyrs of the Pulwama terror attack, Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) on Sunday removed the photographs of Pakistani cricketers from various points inside the Mohali stadium.
The decision to remove the photographs of Pakistani cricketers from Mohali Stadium was taken at a meeting of the cricket body's office bearers, PCA treasurer Ajay Tyagi told PTI.
"As a humble step, the PCA has decided to show its solidarity with the families of martyrs of the Pulwama attack. There is so much anger in the nation against the heinous attack and PCA is no different in this," Tyagi said.
Similarly, a day after covering Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s portrait to protest against the dastardly terror attack on CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama, the Cricket Club of India announced to remove it completely.
The CCI, which is an affiliated unit of BCCI, is home to the iconic Brabourne Stadium, which has hosted many Test matches and is considered to be a cricketing hub.
There are at least 15 photos of Pakistani cricketers inside the Mohali stadium and Pakistan’s present Prime Minister Imran Khan is one among the Pakistani cricketers whose photographs have been removed.
Besides, other pictures are of cricketers including Afridi, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram.
On Thursday, at least 40 CRPF paramilitary troopers were killed in a terror attack while several others are battling for their lives following what is being termed as the deadliest terrorist strike in three decades in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan-based terror organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad has claimed responsibility for it.
