Pakistan's World Cup Squad Faces Setback As Fakhar Zaman, Salman Ali Agha Unavailable For Australia Match

World Cup 2023: Fakhar Zaman has been a pivotal player for Pakistan, but his World Cup campaign has been hampered by the knee injury.

In a setback for Pakistan, their opener Fakhar Zaman and all-rounder Salman Ali Agha will not be available for selection in their upcoming World Cup match against Australia. Zaman is currently undergoing treatment for a knee injury and is expected to return to selection consideration next week. Meanwhile, Salman Ali Agha is recovering from a recent bout of fever.

The team's media manager provided an update, stating (as quoted in a PTI report), "Fakhar Zaman is being treated for a knee injury, he is expected to be available for selection next week. Salman Ali Agha developed a fever after last day’s (Wednesday) training session and he is recovering from it. All other players in the 15-member main squad are doing well."

Fakhar Zaman has been a pivotal player for Pakistan, but his World Cup campaign has been hampered by the knee injury. He participated in Pakistan's tournament opener against the Netherlands in Hyderabad, where he contributed 12 runs. In his absence, Abdullah Shafique has taken on the role of opener and delivered notable performances, including a century against Sri Lanka and a strong showing against India.

These developments come at a critical juncture in the World Cup for Pakistan, as they look to maintain their momentum and secure a spot in the latter stages of the tournament. With Zaman and Agha sidelined for the upcoming match against Australia, the team will need to rely on their available players to deliver strong performances and continue their quest for World Cup success.
