PAK Vs AUS Test Series To Be Called Benaud-Qadir Trophy 'In Honour Of Two Legendary Leg Spinners'

Pakistan Vs Australia 1st Test: "I am honoured that I will be leading the Pakistan team in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy," said Pak skipper Babar Azam.

Australia is touring Pakistan for a Test series for the first time in 25 years. Cricket Australia, on Wednesday, said that the Test series between Pakistan and Australia will now be called the "Benaud-Qadir Trophy in honour of the two legendary leg-spinners".

Late Richie Benaud, who was also a great commentator, and Pakistan's Abdul Qadir were two of the greats of spin bowling in the 70s and 80s.

"Current Test captains Pat Cummins of Australia and Pakistan's Babar Azam today unveiled the new trophy at the Rawalpindi Stadium, where the first Test will be played from Friday," read a statement from Cricket Australia.

Australia last visited Pakistan for a series way back in 1998 when Mark Taylor was their captain. Due to security lapses and attacks on cricketers in the 21st century, cricket matches were stopped from being hosted. Cricket is making a return to Pakistan, and with Australia visiting the country, it becomes even more open.

Despite Ashton Agar getting death threats on social media, former Australian captain Steven Smith said that the Australian team is "feeling incredibly safe in Pakistan".

"We've got a lot of people working here with us, we trust our security and we're feeling incredibly safe in Pakistan."

The Test series starts on March 4, 2022. Australia is on a tour for 3 ODIs, as many Tests and a single T20I.
