One is always better than two. Ask Joe Carter and Brett Hampton. The Northern Districts pair blasted 43 runs to break the List A record of most runs off an over in a Ford Trophy fixture in Hamiton, New Zealand on Wednesday.
What started with an inside edge past the keeper for a boundary ended with three consecutive sixes, six in total, because of two no balls and a single in between to mark one of the most bizarre overs in List A cricket. It was bowled by Central District’s right-arm medium pacer Willem Ludick.
Carter and Hampton bettered the previous record held by former Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura, who took 39 runs off Bangladesh first-class cricketer Alauddin Baby in a Dhaka Premier League match in 2013. smashed four sixes and three fours in a seven-ball over courtesy a no-ball.

The Northern District pair did hit six sixes and a boundary. The The over read: 4,6nb,6nb,6,1,6,6,6. Ludick's bowling figures nosedived from 9-0-42-1 to 10-0-85-1.
Carter carried on to register his maiden List A century while his partner Hampton missed his by 5 runs. The duo added 178 runs for the sixth wicket - a Northern Districts record surpassing the 150 set by BJ Watling and Peter McGlashan.
