Nooshin Al Khadeer Appointed Interim Head Coach Of Indian Women's Team For Bangladesh Tour
Nooshin Al Khadeer was in charge of the India A side that won the ACC Emerging Asia Cup 2023.
Ahead of the Indian women's team tour of Bangladesh, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have not yet officially announced a head coach. Notably, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side is gearing up for a three-match ODI series followed by as many T20Is with the first ODI slated to be held on July 9.
The Indian women's team has been without a head coach ever since Ramesh Powar stepped down from the role. Since that, the Women in Blue competed against Australia in a five-match T20I series in December 2022. In that series, it was Hrishikesh Kanitkar who had been the batting coach. In the Women 's T20 World Cup earlier in the year in South Africa as well, the team was without a designated head coach.
Even as multiple media reports have claimed that Amol Muzumdar could be handed over the responsibility on a full-time basis, the BCCI hasn't made an official announcement. And seems like the official proceedings are taking a bit longer which is why the board has appointed former India cricketer Nooshin Al Khadeer as the interim head coach with her set to take charge for the forthcoming India-Bangladesh series.
It is worth highlighting that Nooshin, who is currently the head coach of the Railways side in the domestic circuit, was in charge when India's U-19 team led by Shafali Verma emerged as the champions of he first-ever Women’s U19 World Cup that was held in South Africa in January 2023. In addition, she was also responsible of the India A side which recently won the Emerging Asia Cup title in Hong Kong. She would now look to replicate the same success with the senior women's side, albeit this will be a interim role.
Meanwhile, the women's team are set to assemble in Mumbai on July 5 before they depart for Bangladesh on July 6.
