Nobody is perfect: Sourav Ganguly on MS Dhoni's captaincy
Former India captain defends current India captain
Kolkata: Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Saturday said Mahendra Singh Dhoni did most of the things right in the ICC World T20 semifinal, although the home team lost to the West Indies.
"He (Dhoni) has been a great captain for India. Nobody is perfect and I think he has been great," Ganguly said at a panel discussion here.
"We all wanted India to go to the T20 World Cup finals and win the Cup but West Indies and England are the two best teams in the competition.
"This West Indies side will actually get people on the edge of their seats because of their power and ability," he added.
Ganguly insisted that the team, which managed to chase down 193, deserves to be in the finals.
"I think on that particular day at the Wankhade stadium two days ago West Indies were a lot better than India. To chase 193 in a semifinal is a special effort," he said.
In spite of the flyover collapse tragedy, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to go on with the cultural programme during the T20 World Cup final here on Sunday.
Ganguly, who is the CAB president, said a four-minute cultural event to showcase West Bengal before the world will be held at Eden Gardens.
"A little bit of cultural thing will happen. It has not been called off. It is a cultural event to showcase Bengal and I think it should be held," he said while expressing his condolences to the families of the 26 victims who died in the tragedy.
"This is a small exposure on the culture of Bengal and we will go ahead with it. It is a four-minute performance and nothing to do with India," Ganguly, was on Saturday announced as brand ambassador of DTDC Express Limited, said.
