Mitchell Marsh Expected To Lead Australia In T20 World Cup 2024
Coach Macdonald has voiced support for Mitchell Marsh's candidacy as Australian captain for T20 World Cup 2024, hinting that an official announcement from the Australian board may come anytime soon.
Star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is set to lead Australia in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, announced by coach Andrew McDonald. The marquee T20 tournament, scheduled for June and to be held in the Caribbean and USA, sees coach McDonald firmly backing Marsh as Australia's skipper for the mega event.
Following Aaron Finch's retirement from international cricket after leading the team in the last T20 World Cup held in Australia at the end of 2022, Mitchell Marsh has assumed a leadership role informally.
Since Aaron Finch's retirement, Mitchell Marsh has captained Australia in three out of four T20 assignments, including matches against South Africa, West Indies, and New Zealand, following the last T20 World Cup. The only T20 series Marsh missed was against India, as he was rested immediately after the last T20 World Cup. While Pat Cummins has been successful as the skipper in ODIs and Tests, Marsh's appointment as the T20 captain for T20 World Cup 2024 seems imminent.
