Meet the Wasim Akram of women's cricket, Moseline Daniels
New Delhi: Javeria Wadood did not waste any time to backtrack towards the pavilion. Her off stump had flown towards the second slip and the leg stump lay where a backward short-leg would position itself – a sight no batter would like to revisit. There was not much that the Pakistan batswoman could have done to avoid the disturbed woodwork, except for a better stride forward. There was just the opposite scene in the South African camp. The close in fielders rushed to embrace Moseline Daniels or shall we say the Wasim Akram of women’s cricket?
As much as one would hate to draw comparisons but one can’t help but getting flashbacks of the Pakistan great after seeing that Daniels delivery. It was so Akram-esque, pitching around off stump with an inward shape, forcing the batter to be rooted to her crease, getting just enough movement to evade the bat and crashing on to the stumps – all in a soothing one motion.
The 27-year-old Daniels has a striking resemblance to Akram in her action too. She gets into to a low side-arm pose in the bowling crease. It’s only at the point of release does she gets more open-chested and gets into her own.
She was the most impressive bowler on display on Sunday afternoon at Leicester, returning with impeccable figures of 2 for 21 in her full quota of 10 overs.
Her efforts were almost matched up Pakistan’s Sadia Yusuf. But South Africa just about managed to sneak in through the back doors to get a winning start in their world cup campaign.
In the nail biting contest, the highlight of the day remained Moseline Daniels and her Akram-like in swings
