Manoj Tiwary Makes U-Turn On Retirement Decision Just 5 Days After Announcement - Here's The Reason
The Bengal cricket team ended as the runners-up in the Ranji Trophy last year, under Manoj’s leadership.
Bengal's legendary player Manoj Tiwary announced his retirement from first-class cricket for Bengal. But then as per reports, after discussions with Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Snehasis Ganguly, Manoj changed his mind. Earlier, the Bengal stalwart took to his Instagram handle and declared his retirement.
"Goodbye to the game of cricket. This game has given me everything, I mean every single thing which I had never dreamt of, starting from the times when my life was challenged by different forms of difficulties. I will always be grateful to this game and to the GOD, who has always been by my side throughout," Tiwary wrote.
"Manabendra Ghosh, my father figure like coach has been the pillar in the cricketing journey. If he had not been there then I would have not reached anywhere in the cricketing circle. Thank you Sir and wish you a speedy recovery, as your health is not keeping well. Thank you to my Dad and Mom, they both never put pressure on me to focus on my studies rather they encouraged me to continue in cricket. Big thank you to my wife, @roy_susmita7 who has always been on my side from the time she came into my life," he added.
But then the 37-year-old is set to return to first-class cricket and declare his decision officially by organizing a press conference on August 8th, Tuesday. The Bengal cricket team ended as the runners-up in the Ranji Trophy last year, under Manoj’s leadership. Therefore, a veteran player going away from the team will create a huge void in the team's middle order.
Manoj has kept his distance from the media ever since he declared his retirement last week, CAB has managed to convince him to take back the decision. The Bengal-based legend has played in 141 first-class games and has collected 9908 runs with an average of 48.56 with the help of 29 centuries. Manoj is just 92 runs away from the 10000-run landmark. The veteran player also played for India in 12 one-day internationals and 3 T20Is where he also made a one-day hundred against the West Indies in Chennai in a winning cause.
