Eden Gardens already features stands named after cricketing greats, including former Indian captains Sourav Ganguly and the late Pankaj Roy, along with former BCCI presidents Jagmohan Dalmiya and Vishwanath Dutt.
Jhulan Goswami, one of the greatest fast bowlers in women's cricket, retired two years ago following a remarkable 20-year career with the Indian women's cricket team. The legendary cricketer holds the record for most wickets in women's ODIs, having taken 255 wickets. Across her career, she played 12 Tests, 204 ODIs, and 68 T20Is, finishing with a total of 355 wickets across all formats.
"I never imagined something like this would come to fruition. I would definitely love to watch a match from there," Goswami was quoted as saying by PTI.
"For any cricketer, the ultimate dream is to represent her district, state, or country, but receiving an honour like this is truly monumental." "A dedicated stand is a huge, significant honour and it’s only possible because of the CAB’s vision to promote women’s cricket. Words can't do justice to this recognition," she added.
At 41, Jhulan Goswami is serving as the bowling coach and mentor for Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League, where the team won the title in first season. Earlier this year, she also became the mentor for Trinbago Knight Riders in the Women's Caribbean Premier League, helping them reach final, although they were unable to win the title.
Goswami praised CAB for their efforts and said, "Over the last 8-10 years, CAB has done phenomenal towards the promotion of women’s cricket."
