IPL AUCTION 2019, Round 2: RR retain Jaydev Unadkat for 8.4 Crore; Shami finds a new home

Jaydev Unadkat was the most expensive Indian player during the 2018 India Premier League (Rs 11.5 crore) but failed to prove himself for Rajasthan Royals. Despite all that, Unadkat entered with Rs 1.5 crore base price in the IPL 2019 auction

BCCI CoA member Diana Edulji welcomed everyone for the auction and addresses the room in Jaipur as the IPL Auction got underway. She welcomed everyone and thanked all the teams, players and sponsors.

Basic Rules

Every franchise will make picks from the auction pool comprising a total of 351 players. Franchises minimum squad size has to be 18 and a maximum of 25. It is mandatory that every franchise spends a minimum Rs 61.5 crores out of their total purse of Rs 82 crores.

Auctions

Round 2 began with Jaydev Unadkat – the highest paid Indian last year, attracting a big of 11.5 crores. This year too, he started off well with Rajasthan and Delhi going all out.

Finally, after a bidding war, Rajasthan Royals bought Jaydev Unadkat back for INR 8.4 Crores.

Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab too jumped in the bidding for Unadkat but Rajasthan Royals brought him back in the team with 8 crores 40 lakhs. Well, a profit of 3 crores, if you ask Rajasthan owners.

Fast bowler Ishant Sharma too found a bidder! His performance in Australia paid off. Sharma was picked up by Delhi Capitals for 1 crore 10 lakhs.Indian fast bowlers stellar show in the Test matches in Australia are paying rich dividends. After Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami attracted a big some. After being released by Delhi, he finds a new home in Kings XI Punjab for 4 crores 80 lakhs.

One of India’s most skilled bowlers among the seamers, Mohammed Shami had his base price set at Rs 1 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils are the two teams he has played for so far in the IPL.

Delhi Capitals ended the 5-year association with him after releasing him earlier this year. Since his IPL debut in 2009, Shami has picked 21 wickets in 43 games.

Indian medium pacer Mohit Sharma returns to Chennai Super Kings for a whopping 5 crores. He last played for Kings XI Punjab.

Varun Aaron, from a base price of 20 lakhs, attracted a bid of 2 crore 40 lakhs and was sold to Rajasthan Royals. He was absent from IPL for 2 years and now makes a strong comeback in the league with a new team.

South African spinner Khary Pierre and Australian leggie Fawad Ahmed went unsold.
