INDW vs NZW: Kiwi wicketkeeper Bernadine Bezuidenhout ruled out of T20I series

All-rounder Anna Patterson will replace Bezuidenhout who joined the squad in Auckland on Thursday

In a major blow to the New Zealand Women’s Cricket Team, wicketkeeper Bernadine Bezuidenhout has been ruled out of the ongoing T20 cricket series against India. She sustained a fracture on her finger at the training session right ahead of the first game in Wellington.

According to media reports, Bezuidenhout was struck on the hand when batting at the Basin Reserve nets. Later, an x-ray revealed the middle finger of her right hand is fractured.

On the other hand, Coach Haidee Tiffen has confirmed Bezuidenhout’s return from the rest of the series.

“You never like to see players miss out due to injury and it's no different in Bernie's case but unfortunately it's just part of the game,” said Tiffen.

“We wish her a speedy recovery and know she will be doing everything in her power to get back on the park.”

All-rounder Anna Patterson will replace Bezuidenhout who joined the squad in Auckland on Thursday.

“Anna joins the side and brings with her experience as well as an option with both the bat and ball. She will slot right in having already been with the squad for the ODI campaign.”

The White Ferns begin their T20 campaign against India women with a 23-run win on Wednesday, leading the series 1-0. The next match will be played on Friday.
