India suffer Vijay Shankar injury scare ahead of World Cup 2019
Star all-rounder Vijay Shankar was hit on his right hand during a training session on Friday. After copping the blow, Shankar was then attended by the team physio.
The Indian Cricket Team arrived in England for the much-awaited ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 which starts from May 30. Before heading into the main event, the men in blue will play two warm-up matches – first against New Zealand on Saturday while second against Bangladesh on May 28.
Meanwhile, Virat-Kohli led India have suffered major injury scare ahead of the World Cup 2019.
While batting in the nets, all-rounder Vijay Shankar was hit in the forearm during a training session on Friday. After copping the blow, Shankar was then attended by the team physio. While the Indian team management has not yet provided any updates on Shankar’s injury, the injury seems to be a minor one.
"Shankar was taken for precautionary scans and a call on his participation in Saturday's warm-up game against New Zealand will be taken after the reports are out. It may come Friday evening (London time) or Saturday morning," a BCCI source told PTI.
Many experts believe that Shankar has been picked to play at the much debated number four spot. If the Tami Nadu born suffers a major injury, it will be a major setback for the Indian squad.
With Kedar Jadhav's left shoulder injury already keeping the team management on tenterhooks, Shankar's injury will certainly give Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri sleepless nights.
While Jadhav's participation in the warm-up game is doubtful, the Maharashtra right-hander did bat at the main nets on the day after taking throwdowns on the first training session.
