India Coach Gautam Gambhir To Return From Australia Midway Through BGT Due To 'Personal Emergency'
India head coach Gautam Gambhir is set to return home from Australia after the first IND vs AUS Test due to 'personal emergency.'
Gautam Gambhir, the Indian men’s team head coach, is set to fly back home mid-way during the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series. Gambhir will reportedly return to India due to a family emergency. However, Gambhir is set to rejoin Team India prior to the India vs Australia second Test (pink-ball Test) of the BGT in Adelaide, scheduled to take place from December 6 to 10. Notably, Gambhir coached Team India to a famous win in the first IND vs AUS Test at Perth as the Jasprit Bumrah-led side defeated the hosts by 295 runs.
According to a TOI report, a family member of Gambhir is facing a health issue, prompting him to return to India.
“Yes, Gambhir has left for back home in India due to a personal emergency. It seems that someone in his family has a health issue. However, he will be back in Australia on December 3, three days before the second Test (pink ball) Test at Adelaide ,” TOI quoted a source in the BCCI as saying.

Before the pink-ball Test in Adelaide, India will travel to the Australian capital Canberra on Wednesday, for a two-day pink-ball practice match, set to take place from Saturday.
In Gambhir's absence, Team India support staff, including assistant coaches Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, Morne Morkel (bowling coach) and T Dilip (fielding coach), will take charge of the team. Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who missed the first Test in Perth due to the birth of his child, arrived in Australia on Sunday and was seen practising in the nets.
India Thump Australia By 295 Runs To Lead Series By 1-0
Coming to India's 295-run win against India in the series-opener, Team India delivered an all-round performance to bamboozle the Aussies in their own backyard to a series lead of 1-0. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a big hundred (161 runs) in the second innings, followed by Virat Kohli's 30th Test century and India posted a mammoth 534-run target. Australia could only manage 238 runs on the board, losing the game by 295 runs. India became the first team in the world to defeat Australia at Perth's Optus Stadium.
Captain Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Match for his 8-wicket haul that helped India bundle Australia out cheaply in both the innings.
