India posted a below-par 255-run total in the first ODI of the 3-match series against Australia at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Put into bat by the Australian skipper Aaron Finch, the visitors  struck early with left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc dismissing the dangerous opener Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul then stitched a century partnership with Shikhar Dhawan for the second wicket to help the home team lay a strong foundation. Indian skipper Kohli who came to bat at No.4 did not last long after holing a simple catch to spinner Adam Zampa.Shreyas Iyer followed the skipper soon as Mitchell Starc scalped him for 4. Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja offered some resistance lower down the order but the Australian seamers dismissed them to prevent any late flourish. Kuldeep Yadav hit a spree of boundaries to help the host reach a respectable score. While Shikhar Dhawan top scored for India with a 74-run knock, Mitchell Starc was the pick of the Australian bowlers picking up 3 wickets. Cummins and Richardson chipped in with two wickets each for the Australians.
