T20 World Cup: Former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named team India's mentor for the T20 World Cup. Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir, who has always criticised Dhoni, has now softened his tone over Dhoni. Gambhir agrees that Dhoni's appointment as a mentor would surely benefit young players during the T20 World Cup.
Gautam Gambhir believes Dhoni has been brought to the team owing to his experience and ability to manage pressure well. Gambhir said, "I am sure Dhoni's role is defined as a mentor as the team already has a head coach, an assistant coach and a bowling coach. I am sure that Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri have made this decison after doing a lot of thinking on what could they do to improve the team's performance and morale high enough to win the T20 World Cup trophy."
All was not well between Dhoni and Gambhir in the past:
Gautam Gambhir says Dhoni's mentorship could prove to be helpful for Team India to manage pressure during stressful times. The former cricketer said, "Instead of bringing someone from outside, who would help the team manage pressure during tough times, it was a wise decision to bring Dhoni as a mentor as he has been known for being calm during pressure-filled situations on the pitch. His mentorship would surely benefit young players during the tournament."
