'I Regret It Hugely': Ollie Robinson Says Sorry For ‘Racist’ & ‘Islamophobic’ Old Tweets

"I want to make it clear that I'm not racist and I'm not sexist," Ollie Robinson said in a statement.

London: England fast-bowler has apologised in a statement for some of his old tweets. These tweets went viral on social media ad did not sit well with some Netizens who called Ollie, a 'racist' and 'sexist'.

"On the biggest day of my career so far, I am embarrassed by the racist and sexist tweets that I posted over eight years ago, which have today become public," Robinson said in the statement. "I want to make it clear that I'm not racist and I'm not sexist."

"I deeply regret my actions, and I am ashamed of making such remarks. I would like to unreservedly apologise to anyone I have offended, my teammates and the game as a whole in what has been a day of action and awareness in combatting discrimination from our sport. I just want to apologize to everyone. I regret it hugely," he added.

Currently, Robinson is playing a Test match against New Zealand and managed to pick 4 wickets in the first innings. 

England and New Zealand are playing a 2-match Test series before New Zealand plays India at the World Test Championship Final on 18 June. In the first session on Day 2, New Zealand crossed the 300-mark. Conway was playing with a strike rate of 54.79 as he was playing at 166*. Ollie Robinson has been the pick of the bowlers for England. He picked 3 wickets. Wood picked 2 while James Anderson picked one wicket.  

This incident with Robinson has sparked an ongoing discussion on racism in sport yet again. 

Football organisations around the world are showing solidarity with players of colour and even in cricket, anti-racism voices are heard.
