England beat Sri Lanka in only T20 match to clean sweep all formats
Sri Lanka could not win a single match on this tour
SOUTHAMPTON: Eoin Morgan ended the game with a big six over midwicket as England beat Sri Lanka by eight wickets in their only Twenty20 game on Tuesday.
England's victory ensured it won every contest — including the test and one-day series — and didn't lose a game during Sri Lanka's tour.
England captain Morgan ended 47 not out as the home team easily chased down Sri Lanka's 140 all out at the Rose Bowl after the tourists won the toss and chose to bat. England finished on 144-2 in 17.3 overs, with opener Jos Buttler's 73 from 49 balls the key innings.
Buttler and Morgan shared an unbeaten 114-run stand for the third wicket to see England home after Jason Roy (0) and James Vince (16) were out. Buttler and Morgan came together with England 30-2 in the fifth over and powered their team to victory.
Buttler clubbed three fours and four sixes, and Morgan struck a four and two sixes, including the last ball where he went down on one knee and hit a slog-sweep into the crowd.
Earlier, left-arm spinner Liam Dawson and seamer Chris Jordan took three wickets each to restrict Sri Lanka. Dawson's 3-27 on his international debut was the best performance among the England bowlers.
Danushka Gunathilaka top-scored for Sri Lanka with 26.
