BAN-W vs ENG-W Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: England Women get their World Cup campaign off to a winning start as they win a low-scoring clash by 21 runs against Bangladesh Women.

BAN-W vs ENG-W Women’s T20 World Cup 2024: England Women defeated Bangladesh Women by 21 runs in the 6th match of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to start their campaign on a winning note at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah on October 5 (Saturday). Sharjah wicket continued to be tricky as batters found it tough to score runs freely. England played four spinners and that proved to be a match-winning tactic as they did their job well and three of them ended with wickets.

With this win, England climbed atop the Group B points table of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 as they now have two points with the Net Run Rate (NRR) of +1.050. Bangladesh, on the other hand, slipped from the top spot to the third as they now have one win and one loss in two matches with the NRR of -0.125.

England's Spinners Shine As Wyatt-Hodge Leads With Bat

In what were challenging conditions for batters, England played with four spinners in Linsey Smith, Charlotte Dean, Sophie Ecclestone and Sarah Glenn and except for Ecclestone, rest three were amongst wickets.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, England, helped by openers Maia Bouchier and Danielle Wyatt-Hodge got the score of 118-7 in 20 overs. Except for the openers and wicket-keeper Amy Jones, none other batter could register the score in double digits.

Chasing 119, Bangladesh experienced a rocky start as they were reduced to 17-2 in 4.1 overs, having lost both their openers. Sobhana Mostary and Nigar Sultana tried to get the Bangladesh innings back on track but once the English spinners got a hold of them, there was no coming back for Bangladesh. Regular wickets meant they were playing catch-up with the required run-rate and ended their innings on 97-7 in 20 overs, losing by 21 runs.

Danielle Wyatt-Hodge for her well-made 41 was awarded with the Player of the Match award.
