WATCH: 5 catches that took Pant into the record books
On Sunday, when he took charge behind the wickets, he altered the record books with his marvellous wicketkeeping skills

A day after Rishabh Pant became the 291st player to represent India in Test cricket, he justified his inclusion in the side with his terrific wicket-keeping skills. He had already shown promise with the bat and on Sunday, when he took charge behind the wickets, he became the youngest stumper to grab 5 catches in an innings.
His selection was no less than a risk which Virat Kohli took after the continuous failure of Dinesh Karthik. Pant - 20 years and 319 days - made his debut a memorable one by bettering the record of England's Chris Read, who had taken five catches at the age of 20 years and 325 days in 1999 against New Zealand.
Pant also became the first Asian to take five catches in an innings on Test debut. The feat of taking five catches on debut in an entire Test match belongs to three other Indians - Naren Tamhane (vs Pakistan in 1955), Kiran More (vs England in 1986) and Naman Ojha (vs Sri Lanka in 2015) - Pant is sure to surpass them in second innings.

Earlier on day 1, he entered the field with his willow and became the first Indian cricketer to open his account with a six. The young stumper went for a biggie right in the second ball of his Test career. He ended up scoring 24 runs off 51 balls.
