Dawid Malan, England Star, Takes Up Part-Time Coaching Role Amid Fears Of International Career Ending

Despite being one of the rare bright spots of England's ODI World Cup 2023 campaign, Dawid Malan did not find a place in the England side for their white-ball tour of West Indies that followed.

Dawid Malan, the England star, has disclosed that he has taken up a part-time coaching role with Yorkshire amid fears that his international career with the Three Lions might be nearing its end. Notably, Malan was England's leading run-getter in their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign in India where they failed to reach the semifinals. In what was an otherwise disappointing run in the World Cup, Malan ended up accumulating 404 runs in 9 matches during the competition.

Despite being one of the rare bright spots of England's campaign, Malan did not find a place in the England side for their white-ball tour of West Indies that followed the World Cup. Even though the left-handed batter remains hopeful of finding a place in the team's squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 in June, he has taken up a coaching role, in case that does out to be the case.

England Selectors Might Want To Go In A Different Direction: Malan

Meanwhile, Malan said that his selection is out of his control and he has made peace with it.

"I have no idea what they (selectors and team management) are thinking at the moment. We have got appraisals in 12 or 14 days so I’ll probably find out a bit more then. I will just take it as it comes," Malan said as quoted in a report carried by Telegraph.

"I am not looking too far ahead or wanting something that might not be there. If it is, it is, if it isn’t, it isn’t. I have made peace with that. I have a different path that I am looking at the moment in terms of the last two or three years in my career and if things pop up, they pop up, and if they don’t, they don’t," he added.

"Obviously I know they might want to go in a different direction. That’s absolutely fine. They’re entitled to do whatever they need to do that they think is the best way to move English cricket in the right direction. I still feel I’m good enough and young enough to do it but that’s out of my control, selection-wise," the 36-year-old said before revealing: "I’m going to do a bit of coaching in my off time and help the boys out two or three days a week. I’ll work with the firsts and seconds, whoever is around."
