CPL 2020: Trinbago Knight Riders Trounce Jamaica Tallawahs By 9 Wickets To Qualify For CPL Final

The in-form Knight Riders who registered their 11th straight win in the 2020 CPL will now take on the winner of the second semi-final between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Zouks which will take place on Wednesday (September 9th).

Trinbago Knight Riders lived up to their billing of being hot favourites to lift the 2020 edition of the Caribbean Premier League  after they trounced Jamaica Tallawahs by 9 wickets in the first semifinal of the CPL and progress to their record 4th CPL final on Tuesday. The in-form Knight Riders who registered their record extending 11th straight win in the 2020 CPL will now take on St Lucia Zouks, who won the second semifinals after beating Guyana Amazon Warriors by a thumping 10 wicket margin. Trinbago win came at the back of a breezy half ton by their opener Lendl Simmons (54) and Tion Wbester (44) who guided their below par 108-run chase with relative ease. Trinbago registered a convincing win with five overs to spare in the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on Saturday night. Earlier in the day, the Trinbago spinners came to the party by casting a web around the Jamaican Tallwawahs batting by picking up wickets at regular intervals and choke their opponent's run flow to restrict them to 107 for 7. While Akeal Hosein sent opener Jermaine Blackwood for a duck in the very first over, Khary Pierre had Glenn Phillips caught off Ali Khan to reduce the Jamaican side to 2 for 2. TKR spinners Akeal Hosein and Khary Pierre wrecked through the Jamaican top order team by reducing them to 25 for 4. Tallawahs batsman Bonner did try to stage a comeback of sorts by offering some resistance but he too was send back by leg spinner Fawad Alam for 41 while skipper Rovman Powell scored 33. "It's a great feeling to repay my captain's faith. To be able to give 100 percent for my team feels nice. It was a nice surface to bowl on, got some spin and there was also some swing on offer. I've been sitting in my room and telling myself that I've been doing decently and just needed one Man-of-the-Match performance to top things off. And really glad that it's happened," Hosein was delighted after winning player of the match award in the CPL semi-final. Spinners Akeal Hosein was the chief tormentor with three wickets while Khary Pierre picked up two. Seasoned off-spinner Sunil Narine and Fawad Ahmed bagged one wicket a apiece. Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the lone wicket taker for Tallawahs, that of Sunil Narine.
