Bharat Arun named Team India bowling coach, Bangar promoted to assistant coach
New Delhi: After a huge drama over the appointment of support staff, Ravi Shastri’s trusted man Bharat Arun has been named as the bowling coach of Indian cricket team, while the role of Zaheer khan and Rahul Dravid is not defined.
Arun was India's bowling coach during Shastri's previous tenure as Team Director and the latter had insisted on his appointment in his soon-to-start second stint with the Indian team.
Ravi Shastri will also have Sanjay Bangar (assistant coach) and R Shidhar (fielding coach) in his setup.
The support staff will work with Shastri till the World Cup 2019 and their first assignment begins from July 26 when India face Sri Lanka in the island.
Addressing a press conference, Shasrti said, “I would like to thank CAC for keeping the faith in me and believing that I am capable of becoming the India head coach.”
However, there was no clarity regarding the role of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan, who had been earlier named as batting and bowling consultants respectively.
Dravid was given the responsibility of assisting Indian batsmen on away tours, while Zaheer was given 150 days per year contract to help Indian pacers. But BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary refused to make any comments on their appointments.
India are schedule to travel to Sri Lanka on July 19 to play 3 Tests, 5 ODIs and a one-off T20.
