BCCI Gives Important Update On Rohit Sharma's Thumb Injury

Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar will not be featuring in the third ODI against Bangladesh.

New Delhi: In order to get his thumb injury assessed by a specialist, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has already returned to India. The BCCI issued a press release that said that Kuldeep Sen and Deepak Chahar will not be featuring in the third ODI against Bangladesh.

"India Captain Rohit Sharma suffered a blow to his thumb in the second over while fielding in the 2nd ODI. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him, and he underwent scans at a local hospital in Dhaka. He has flown to Mumbai for specialist consultation and will miss the final ODI. A call on his availability for the upcoming Test series will be taken later," the BCCI release stated.

"Fast bowler Kuldeep Sen complained of stiffness in his back after the first ODI. The BCCI Medical Team assessed him, and he was advised to rest from the 2nd ODI. Kuldeep has been diagnosed with a stress injury and is ruled out of the series. Fellow fast bowler Deepak Chahar sustained a left hamstring strain during the 2nd ODI and is also ruled out of the series. Both Kuldeep and Deepak will now report to NCA for further management of their injuries.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has added Kuldeep Yadav to India's squad for the third and final ODI," the release further stated.

Talking about the Second match, after batting first, Bangladesh scored 271/7 with the help of  Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s 100 not out. He also forged a 148-run partnership with Mahmudullah who also scored 77 runs.  For India,  Washington Sundar scalped three wickets while Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik took two wickets each.

In reply to that, India had a terrible start but then Shreyas Iyer made 82 runs while Axar Patel scored a run-a-ball 56. India ended up posting  266 for nine in 50 overs.

Despite India losing the match, the highlight was Rohit Sharma’s brilliant cameo. He had a thumb injury while fielding and post that, the medical team of BCCI evaluated and took him for scans. But still, he came out to bat and remained unbeaten on 51 off 28 balls.  He took the match to the last ball but unfortunately, the Men in Blue fell short by just five runs.

India's squad for the 3rd ODI: KL Rahul (C) (WK), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Kuldeep Yadav.
