AUS vs ENG T20 World Cup 2024: All-Round Australia Register Clinical Win Over Rusty England

AUS vs ENG T20 World Cup 2024: Here's what happened in the Australia vs England T20 World Cup 2024 match:

AUS vs ENG T20 World Cup 2024:  Australia (AUS) registered a clinical win as they defeated arch-rivals and the defending champions England (ENG) in the 17th fixture of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Led by Mitchell Marsh, Australia defeated Joss Buttler-led England by 36 runs at the Kensington Oval stadium in  Bridgetown, Barbados on June 8. It was an all-round show from the Australians where everyone chipped in with crucial contributions.

The defeat has placed the defending champions in a challenging position with only 1 point from 2 matches. They currently hold the 4th position in Group B on the table, with Australia and Scotland leading in the top 2 spots.

Australia Too Hot To Handle For England

Winning the toss, England decided to bowl first. The pair of left-handed batters, David Warner and Travis Head, combined to add 70 runs for the opening wicket, with the senior batter departing after a rapid 39 off just 16 balls. Four balls later, Head was also dismissed for 34 off 18. Subsequently, Marsh and Glenn Maxwell built another crucial partnership, reaching a half-century stand before the skipper was dismissed for a brisk 35 off 25 balls. Maxwell followed suit shortly after, adding a slower-paced 28 runs, much against his usual batting style.

Decent contributions from Marcus Stoinis, Tim David and Matthew Wade helped Australia post an above-par total of 201 runs at the end of their 20 overs. Chris Jordan was the standout among the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets for 44 runs, while Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone and Jofra Archer each picked up a wicket.

In response, England appeared comfortable until openers Jos Buttler and Philip Salt were dismissed. Both had been scoring quickly against the seamers until Adam Zampa dismissed them. Jacks, batting at number three, could only manage a run-a-ball 10. Tight bowling from Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood prevented England from building momentum despite having wickets in hand. Consequently, England fell short of the target, losing by 36 runs to the Australian side.
