Sri Lanka Calls Off Asia Cup 2021 Due To Rising Covid 19 Cases
The Asia Cup was supposed to be held in Pakistan in 2020, but it had got cancelled and scheduled for this year in June. The cancellation of the Asia Cup has raised speculations about the India vs Sri Lanka series that is going to take place in the month of July.
Asia Cup 2021 Cancelled: Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on Wednesday, announced that the Asia Cup 2021, which was supposed to be held in Sri Lanka in June has been called off due to the rising cases of Corona virus. Sri Lanka Cricket chief executive Ashley de Silva also said that there are no suitable dates to host the Asia Cup till the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
“Due to the prevailing situation, it will not be possible to play the tournament in June this year,” De Silva said as quoted by The Sportstar.

The Sri Lanka government announced a ban on flights coming from overseas for a period of 10 days.
The Sri Lankan team is currently in Bangladesh preparing to play a 3-match ODI series in Dhaka. Interestingly, the SLC has not announced to cancel the England series that is supposed to take place in June itself. The England team will travel to SL to play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is from June 23.
The tournament was scheduled to be played in Pakistan but the BCCI had said that they won't be touring to Pakistan for any cricket matches, thus the tournament had to be shifted to Sri Lanka which now stands cancelled.
