Aaron Finch wants teammates to 'be more honest' ahead of do-or-die match

Finch recommended that the teammates need to try and soak up a little bit more pressure.

Ahead of the 3rd ODI against England at Trent Bridge on June 19, Australian batsman Aaron Finch stated that they need to put a check on repeating old mistakes in order to keep their chances alive in the series.

After losing the first two ODIs, it’s a do-or-die situation for the Aussies at Trent Bridge. In both the games, the visitors have witnessed a massive middle-order collapse which ultimately put them at the receiving end.

Speaking about the same, Finch said, “We keep talking about middle-order collapses and losing wickets in clumps and it keeps happening. I don't know whether we're working ourselves up into a frenzy about things like that but it's disappointing obviously.”

“In the past we've been ultra-aggressive against spin and we're probably still going with that (tactic) a little bit at times rather than taking the game a little bit deeper. Whether that's through a lack of attention to detail or trying to up the ante too much and push the game forward when we just need to hold a little bit,” he added.

Finch also recommended that the teammates need to try and soak up a little bit more pressure. He said, “We’ve got to be a little bit more honest with ourselves and our teammates and probably just communicate a little bit better and be accountable to each other and just try and soak up a little bit more pressure.”

Finch went on to speak about the change in his batting position. In the 2nd ODI in Cardiff, he was slotted in the middle order for the first time in his ODI career. However, the plan didn’t work as he was dismissed on a duck. Still, the 31-year-old batsman think he is comfortable at that position.

“We've got a few guys who can bat at the top of the order. Over the last 12 or 18 months I've batted in the middle order in quite a lot of T20. So, it's just about trying to find a balance in our side. What we have been doing hasn't been working over the last little while, but it's also a chance to try some new things.” I'm very comfortable batting at five,” said Finch.
