A Case Of Mistaken Identity: Gilchrist Responds To Report Of Him Being Richest Cricketer With $380 Million Net Worth

Gilchrist laughed off the claim which suggested that he was the richest cricketer in the world ahead of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

While a recent media report has claimed that former Australian player Adam Gilchrist is the wealthiest cricketer, the ex-wicketkeeper-batter has claimed it be untrue. Gilchrist was placed at the helm of this list published by World Index which claimed that the swashbuckling left-handed batting star had a net worth of $380 million (approx. ₹3,140-crore).

The same report also placed Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar at the number two position who was followed by his compatriots MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

"A case of mistaken identity here folks. Unless of course my namesake who founded F45 played cricket, in which case it’s completely accurate," the former Kings XI Punjab cricketer tweeted.

He even accompanied his tweet with #doyourresearch and #fakenews to suggest that the news was not based on empirical evidence.

Notably, the 51-year-old is widely regarded as one of the finest wicketkeeper-batters ever to play have played the game who went on to change the course of several matches during his playing days in favour of the Kangaroos both with his performance with the bat and behind the gloves. He is a veteran of 97 Test matches, 287 ODIs and 13 T20Is scoring 5570, 9619 and 272 runs in them respectively.

Gilchrist is also known for leading one of the most extraordinary comebacks in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history. While his franchise Deccan Chargers (now defunct) had finished at the bottom of the league table in the inaugural season managing just a couple of wins from 14 matches, the Gilchirst-led franchise stunned one and all when they went on to lift the trophy in 2009 after topping the table with 10 out of 14 wins.

Gilchrist was also the leading run-getter for his franchise in this season and the second highest run-scorer in this edition of the competition, finishing with 495 runs from 16 innings.
