New Delhi: Star paddler Sharath Kamal and world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen have been named India's flagbearers during the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games 2022 on Monday. Sharath, one of the flagbearers of table tennis in India, won the men's team and mixed team gold and a silver in the men's doubles event. Star female boxer Nikhat Zareen on the other hand won the gold medal in the light flyweight event (50kg) on Sunday.
"Nikhat Zareen and Sharath Kamal will be India's flagbearers in the closing ceremony," the Indian team's chef de mission Rajesh Bhandari told PTI.
Double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu and men's hockey captain Manpreet Singh were the flagbearers for the opening ceremony.

India bagged a total of 15 medals on the ninth day of CWG 2022 which included 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze medals. With this stellar performance, India has also consolidated its position in the medal tally. India moved up to the fifth position with a total of 55 medals, including 18 gold, 15 silver and 22 bronze medals after the end of the ninth day's events. The race between India and New Zealand is going on for the fourth and fifth positions.
On the last day of the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, India will take to the field with the intention of winning five gold and one bronze medal. India will not be able to beat Canada in the medal tally even after winning all the five gold medals on the last day of CWG 2022. Canada is in third place with 26 gold medals. The target of the Indian team will be to finish at the fourth position on the last ie 11th day of the 22nd Commonwealth Games.
