'Wouldn't Term Australia As...': Smriti Mandhana's Big Claim Ahead Of India's 2022 CWG Campaign
Team India's star batter Smriti Mandhana claimed there are no big teams in T20 cricket and that she wouldn't let Australia feel good by calling them a big team.
New Delhi: The Indian women's cricket team has to play their first match against Australia in the Commonwealth Games 2022 at the iconic Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. India and Australia are in the same group. This is the first time in the Commonwealth Games that women's cricket has been included in this multi-sport tournament.
Meanwhile, Team India's star batter Smriti Mandhana has given a big statement ahead of their opening match in CWG. Despite Australia being considered as the best team in women's cricket, Mandhana claimed there are no big teams in T20 cricket and that she wouldn't let Australia feel good by calling them a big team.
"We have played them (Australia) in the openers in quite a lot of tournaments. In a T20 tournament, any team can beat any team. I wouldn't term Australia as a big team and make them feel good about that. Definitely, in our heads, Australia, Pakistan and Barbados matches are important. We will go as they come and will look to win all of them," said Mandhana in a press conference before the team fly to England.
Mandhana also spoke about taking inspiration from Neeraj Chopra's gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
"We all have watched the Olympics and the CWG, when the Indian flag goes high and we hear the National Anthem, we know the kind of feeling it evokes. "I literally got goosebumps when Neeraj got the gold at the Tokyo Olympics. We have an opportunity to be there, try and do that -- of course not for the Olympics but for CWG. So, we all are really excited," concluded Mandhana.
